Why so much activity in the financial tech start-up arena as of late - particularly personal finance?

There’s been at least 10 online financial service launches or unveilings this month in North America alone.

Chris, I too have thought of this and the only answer I have is the two market leaders, Intuit and Microsoft, stopped innovating. The apps they created were simple silos. Many of the web PFM sites broke the user free from 1 pc and also allowed for collaboration. Beyond my simple thoughts I have not not spend enough time really researching what you ask. I have only just begun.
What are your thoughts?
