I am looking for a good resource that can give me some meaningful banking statistics. For example, what is the average deposit account worth to a financial institution? What is the average customer retention rate? Something along these lines.

I’m betting these will be difficult to find, as these statistics are probably specific to each FI. They may also be details that people are unwilling to share.
However, if there is a website or report out there that shows these numbers, I’d be in interested in seeing it as well. ;)

Harland Financial has an interesting product called Deposit Performance Benchmark which might be able to help you. Not free, though.

Ron, is correct about Harland Financial Solutions The Harland panel is quarterly and only for consumer banking. Cornerstone Advisors is another one with some business accounts data and there’s every other year and rotates with their Credit Union benchmark. The other is Anat Bird’s SCB Forums You can get a sample report in the benchmark section.
Most of these sites release a tiny portion of the data in press releases, blog and newsletter postings. If you want the real data, you need to get your FI to pay and sign-up and participate which I highly recommend.

I heard years ago that a bank will pay a premium for deposits of any where from 3.5-7.0% for deposits in a sale; it may be more or less now. A good place for bank statistics is SNL. They seem to have nearly everything on banking and financial services. Good luck.
