Michelle, we aren’t a bank obviously but we’ve been using Pointsec for quite some time and had pretty good luck with it but it doesn’t work with Macs.

We have also been considering taking the open source route and trying TrueCrypt since it works with all platforms (PC, Mac, Linux).

Thanks for the info Brad! And Pointsec was aquired by Check Point Software, correct? I just want to make sure I am looking at the right product!

Michelle,

where I work (A Bank), most of us work off of thin clients. However, all computers must have Pointsec installed not just laptops.

The new link for is Pointsec and yes they were purchased by Check Point

I would be interested in these solutions – we are going to have to deploy this in the next couple of months.

We’re using PGP, and haven’t had any issues with it.

Nope, no laptop encryption at our CU. But all of our newer laptops are all locked down with biometrics.

We did extensive testing with three different encryption applications: PGP, CheckPoint (PointSec), and Utimaco. We felt that CheckPoint was the best of the bunch and just installed it last week. We will begin rolling it out to all laptops in a phased approach over the next month.

As a side note, we also liked the CheckPoint Media Encryption that allowed us to lock down USB devices and other peripherals on all workstations and laptops. The combination of these two products tipped the scale for us to CheckPoint.

We have been using TrueCrypt on several laptops at the bank. It works great. After version 5 was released with full disk encryption it was no contest on what solution to pick. The only thing that you need to be careful of is if any of your applications use the first sector of the HD for anytype of IP protection. Adobe and Macromedia are famous for this. Although TrueCrypt 5.1a resolves most of these issues because it shrinks its boot footprint.
