I am curious who is using RSS and RSS readers to keep track of specific topics. If you use RSS, would you tell me what tool you use and what sites you are subscribed to?

I subscribe to RSS feeds via Bloglines. It’s easy to sign up and the account is free.
I subscribe to anything I can, lol. RSS enables content to come to me instead of me going out and viewing all of the content. Popular uses include RSS feeds of Tweets from a specific Twitter user or RSS feeds from blogs that I like to read.

I use FeedDemon for work and Google Reader for my personal feeds. FeedDemon’s a piece of desktop software, which means I can access feeds that we run internally in my company to deliver information. Web-based readers like Google Reader, Bloglines, etc. can’t pick that content up since it’s inside our firewall.

I use Google Reader, but I haven’t considered using any other RSS readers. I may look into others just to see if they’re nicer to use. No qualms with Google Reader, though.
I subscribe to over 100 feeds, but here are a few of my favorite:
Payment News
The Bankwatch
Currency Marketing
The Loop
Credit, Debt, Life and Steve
Customer Experience Matters
Customers Rock!
Copyblogger
I seek out really good finance, banking, CU, marketing, security, and copywriting blogs. Those I listed just happen to be the ones where I continually find interesting content.

I use Netvibes and have a ton of feeds that I am constantly adding and purging. I really like the tabbed view and grouping that Netvibes allows. It helps me keep my banking feeds separate from my Ruby feeds and such. It also allows for authenticated feeds, which was my main reason for switching from Google Reader.
If you are looking for a jump start of FI feeds, you can also check out the ones we’ve aggregated into our Industry Feeds section.

I’m using what Dan is, FeedDemon. I’ve looked at a handful of other RSS readers and like FeedDemon the best and it’s still free. Interface is easy to use and, as Dan stated, you can use it independently of having a browser open. Still browsing for different subscriptions, Open Source CU is one that I subscribe to.

Oh yeah, forgot to share some my key feeds. I subscribe to dozens, but these are the ones I consider the most important:
Too bad there’s no way to attach a file or I’d just upload my OPML…

I use Google Reader for my feed reading. I subscribe to just about every banking or CU-related site I can find. I also have stuff related to small business, sports, entertainment, it’s all over the board. But it is DEFINITELY my modern day newspaper.
Oh, and in the event that I have over 1000+ unread items in my reader…I don’t even try, I just ‘mark all as read’ and if it was a big enough story, I’ll catch the next wave.

I love Netbanker, Jim B is my hero. Also ,Gonzo Banker, Finextra, Javelin and Harris Interactive (ok it’s a newsletter, but I still love it.) I follow Open Source CU, Shevlin and Azaroff, a little less frequently. And I am really enjoying twitter tweets lately.

Thanks everyone – what a great list! I will add a couple from our “Bankroll” on Bankwide:
Bank Systems And Technology: The Blog
Improving New Account Opening
Private Banking Innovation
Jordan Crouch’s Adventures in Mortgage Banking
And of course some shameless self promotion The Bankwide Feeds
I have adopted Flock as my new “social browser of choice” and keep my feeds there, it allows me to twitter, facebook, read articles and everything from one application. I still use Firefox to develop and IE to test.
This forum post has me re-thinking the Bankroll on Bankwide… So much to consider. Thanks for all of your replies, and it is good to see that RSS is taking off!

Firefox’s built in reader. I put them in a News folder in the toolbar. Easy as pie and couldn’t live without it.

I use Google Reader. It’s easy to use on the iPhone and share interesting posts with other people. Given my role in the industry, I follow a lot of SEO/SEM blogs, but also the following, more related, blogs:
Ron Shevlin – MarketingROI
Tyler Hannan – Reflections on Emergent Commerce and Technology
Commerce Lab Blog – Payment application for developers
Bankervision
Netbanker
The Bankwatch
