As blogs and social media gain traction in the financial services sector, it seems that more and more FIs are implementing some form of a blog. What about the FI you use?

I don’t think mine does. I say “think” because all I ever use the website for is the link to get to online banking. Sometimes I catch a glimpse of the main product they are currently pushing, but other than that, the website is a blur.

The one where I do most of my transactions does not, although the one that I work for does! It’s not entirely blog-like yet, but we already got volunteers for a community event through it. I’m hoping to gradually ramp up over the course of 2008.

Elaine, what is the URL for your FI’s blog?
Also, you don’t do the majority of your transactions through the FI where you work? That’s very interesting to me. I think it will spur a new question from me. :)

And I belonged to my other credit union for 6 years before I started working here; that’s where I got my first car loan & my mortgage. I like the people, the locations are convenient, etc., etc. I’m actually a very loyal member. :)
I do have an account where I work (technically, I sort of have 2, but that’s a long story), and I got a car loan there as well.
Professionally, as a web designer/developer, I think it’s useful to be a member/customer at another FI—you get a good view of what they’re doing.

Mine does not, I think they are afraid it may diminish their “apperance” -

Not yet, but a co-worker and I are looking into doing some sort of social network/marketing “something” aimed at the young adult market. The best site i’ve ever seen for something like this is from a credit union in Canada. http://www.youngfreealberta.com/
Its pretty impressive

You bet! We have four and counting, and was the first major US bank to blog. We started more than two years ago. A list of our blogs is available at http://blog.wellsfargo.com
Let me know what you think.
