Social technologies are changing that. Gartner colleagues noted the impact of social networks and networking in a very recent note Obama for America: Using Networks to Redefine Participatory Politics. That campaign had presence and visibility, well, everywhere.

Franklin Bank, S.S.B., Houston, Texas, was closed today by the Texas Department of Savings and Mortgage Lending, and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) was named receiver. To protect the depositors, the FDIC entered into a purchase and assumption agreement with Prosperity Bank, El Campo, Texas, to assume all of the deposits, including those that exceeded the insurance limit, of Franklin Bank.

We just published our first FABB Insight—reports based on what people search for and choose on FindABetterBank.com (FABB). You can sign-up to receive an email whenever we publish FABB Insights (no cost or obligation).

In this FABB Insight, we looked at searchers wanting “Student Accounts” included in their search results. Banks package no-frills checking accounts for students, but our research indicates students want accounts with lots of bells and whistles. For example, 62% of student searchers chose an interest-bearing checking account.

Fidelity National Information Services (FIS) is to offer Obopay’s mobile person-to-person payment service to FIS’s roughly 1700 bank customers, the pair announced at BAI’s Retail Delivery show. Jacksonville, Fla.-based FIS is starting to sign up interested banks, Kishore Bayyapureddy, senior vice president of FIS told BS&T.
